Covering the years 1889-1942 trough the years of Montgomery's adolescence, young adulthood, marriage, the beginning of her career as one of Canada's most prolific writers, her struggles in later years as a wife and mother in Ontario, the success of her literary career and finally the years leading up to her death.

These journals give a glimpse into the mind of a complex, insightful woman who was in many ways "ahead of her time" in her thinking, but hopelessly bound by the time period in which she lived.
