Hollyhocks' height and large blooms make them ideal candidates for growing up against walls or fences. The name Hollyhock is believed to have derived from the Anglo-Saxon term, 'holy-hoc' or holy mallow – mallow being a common name given to all members of the althea family. The word, althea, comes from the Greek word to cure – a reference to the medicinal virtues of the plant. They are a summer favorite of country enthusiasts. Original art has been digitally retouched to preserve characteristics, grain and cracks. This wildflower study dates from the Edwardian era. Bring some rustic romance into your home with this print.
