Synopsis:
Academy Award winners Sidney Poitier and Michael Caine star in Mandela and De Klerk, a film about two men who changed the future of South Africa. In 1964, Nelson Mandela (Poitier) was sentenced to life imprisonment after what remains the most sensational treason trial in South African history. Mandela and his fellow accused were imprisoned on Rodden Island, an island that would become the symbol of their struggle to end apartheid. In 1990, President De Klerk (Caine) announced that Mandela would be released from prison after serving 27 years behind bars. Mandela and De Klerk is the riveting story of the secret negotiations that finally resulted in the end of apartheid and the birth of a new democratic nation in South Africa.
